A memorable life, part two

Start to consider what you need to do to feel fulfilled.

In last week’s post, we were discussing what it means to live a memorable life. We wanted to take a longer view of this topic of “resolutions”, since around this time of year we start adjusting our plans for the future, considering what we want to improve and change.

Such a project, living a memorable life, leads us directly to the next question: what do we have to do in order to live a not just a memorable life, but a fulfilled one?

David Deida writes about this question and adds an important twist. If you were to die in three days, he asks, what would you have to do today and tomorrow to have a “fulfilled life”? That’s a very interesting notion because it doesn’t push everything out to next year, or the next five years.

We have to ask, “OK, what do I need to do now to start living the life that I really believe in? How can I access this thing that feel deeply inside of myself right now? How can I satisfy the question of not just living, but of real fulfillment?

So we want to add that to our discussion of New Year and end-of-year planning. If you’re on board with us for this work, we want to introduce a sense of urgency. Because we’re finding that it’s a very effective lens to look through.

None of the pie-in-the-sky, get-it-done-someday stuff…we need to give more, we need to do more, we need to go back to some those important principles, plans and strategies that we might have forgotten about.
